Deck Building in Lake Sherwood
Danny Deck Construction has been building and repairing decks across Los Angeles since 1995, and Lake Sherwood is one of the areas we work in most.
We build custom hardwood decks in Ipe, Mangaris and Kayu Batu, composite and PVC decks in Trex, TimberTech and AZEK, and the structural work underneath them: new footings, engineered post-and-beam framing, and waterproofed assemblies over living space. We fabricate our own stainless cable railing and custom steel railing, so the railing fits the deck rather than the other way around.
Alongside decks we build pergolas and patio covers, wood fences and gates, deck stairs and landings, and we repair and refinish existing decks that are worth saving rather than replacing. If a repair will do the job we will say so.
We work directly for homeowners and as a deck subcontractor for general contractors and architects. If you are managing a rebuild and need someone who can read a fire-zone material schedule, that is us.

Building decks in Lake Sherwood
Lake Sherwood is unincorporated Ventura County, tucked into the hills above Westlake, and it's about as fire-exposed as this end of our service area gets. Steep terrain, heavy brush, single-access roads and a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone designation.
California's wildfire-zone construction rules moved into the California Wildland-Urban Interface Code in January 2026, replacing Chapter 7A of the building code and Section R337 of the residential code. The code governs the walking surface, meaning deck boards and stair treads, and the requirement is a California State Fire Marshal listing, tested with burning embers landing on the deck.
TimberTech AZEK Vintage and Landmark are both listed Class A with no conditions attached, and Kayu Batu is too. Ipe is listed but only through particular suppliers, whose ratings differ. Trex Transcend, Select, Transcend Lineage and Refuge all need the adjacent wall covering to be noncombustible or ignition-resistant. Trex Enhance holds no listing.
Because it's unincorporated, permits run through Ventura County rather than a city department, and the Ventura County Fire Protection District has its own requirements alongside. Confirm both early.
The lots here are steep and often heavily treed, which means elevated decks, engineered framing, real footings and the underside enclosed to grade. Access is a genuine cost factor on these roads, and any estimate that ignores it isn't a real estimate.
