Deck Building in Venice

Danny Deck Construction has been building and repairing decks across Los Angeles since 1995, and Venice is one of the areas we work in most.

We build custom hardwood decks in Ipe, Mangaris and Kayu Batu, composite and PVC decks in Trex, TimberTech and AZEK, and the structural work underneath them: new footings, engineered post-and-beam framing, and waterproofed assemblies over living space. We fabricate our own stainless cable railing and custom steel railing, so the railing fits the deck rather than the other way around.

Alongside decks we build pergolas and patio covers, wood fences and gates, deck stairs and landings, and we repair and refinish existing decks that are worth saving rather than replacing. If a repair will do the job we will say so.

Venice

Building decks in Venice

Venice is tight lots, mixed uses, and a lot of vertical building, which means most of what we do here is roof decks, second-story decks and balconies rather than ground-level builds.

Roof decks are their own discipline. The roof has to be sound and properly waterproofed before any decking goes down, and where it isn't, that work comes first. We do both parts. Torch-down repair or a new waterproofing assembly, then decking over sleepers or adjustable pedestals depending on the roof. Doing only the second half is how people end up with a leak they can't find.

Salt air matters here too. Stainless hardware throughout, and material that tolerates moisture. Ipe, Kayu Batu and PVC all do. Wood-composite boards are less forgiving in this environment.

Permits run through LADBS, and much of Venice sits inside the Coastal Zone, which can add a coastal development permit on top. Height limits and the specific plan governing the area are worth checking before anything gets designed, because a roof deck is exactly the kind of thing they constrain.

We do a fair amount of fence, gate and privacy work here as well. Lots are close together, and the hardwood privacy fencing we build for deck clients tends to get asked about by the neighbors.
