Deck Building in La Cañada Flintridge

Danny Deck Construction has been building and repairing decks across Los Angeles since 1995, and La Cañada Flintridge is one of the areas we work in most.

We build custom hardwood decks in Ipe, Mangaris and Kayu Batu, composite and PVC decks in Trex, TimberTech and AZEK, and the structural work underneath them: new footings, engineered post-and-beam framing, and waterproofed assemblies over living space. We fabricate our own stainless cable railing and custom steel railing, so the railing fits the deck rather than the other way around.

Alongside decks we build pergolas and patio covers, wood fences and gates, deck stairs and landings, and we repair and refinish existing decks that are worth saving rather than replacing. If a repair will do the job we will say so.

We work directly for homeowners and as a deck subcontractor for general contractors and architects. If you are managing a rebuild and need someone who can read a fire-zone material schedule, that is us.

Building decks in La Cañada Flintridge

La Cañada Flintridge sits directly below the San Gabriels, in the same foothill band that produced the Eaton Fire in January 2025. It is a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, and it has the steep, brush-backed lots to go with it.

Since January 2026, California's wildfire-zone rules live in the California Wildland-Urban Interface Code, which replaced Chapter 7A of the building code and Section R337 of the residential code. What the code regulates is the walking surface — deck boards and stair treads — and the standard is not a flame-spread rating off a spec sheet. The surface has to be a product carrying a California State Fire Marshal listing, tested with burning embers on the deck.

TimberTech AZEK Vintage and Kayu Batu are both listed Class A with no conditions. Ipe is listed through specific suppliers only, with ratings that vary between them. Trex's Transcend, Select and Transcend Lineage lines are listed but each requires the adjacent exterior wall covering to be noncombustible or ignition-resistant. Trex Enhance is not listed.

The city runs its own building and safety department, and hillside lots here — the streets climbing toward the Angeles National Forest boundary, Chevy Chase, Descanso — usually mean elevated construction with engineered framing and footings, and the underside enclosed to grade in compliant material.

Properties adjoining the forest boundary carry defensible space obligations alongside the building requirements, which affects what can sit near a deck as much as what the deck is made of.
